Peter Jacobsen and Jim Hardy designed it. The Sierra Nevada surrounds it at 6,000 feet. And in 2026 it is the backdrop for Northern Nevada's most purposeful charity golf tournament. Here is why Gray's Crossing is worth the drive.
The first time you play Gray's Crossing, you understand why people drive from Reno to Truckee to do it.
You leave the valley floor. You climb into the pines. And somewhere around the third hole, with the Sierra Nevada framing every view and the altitude thinning the air just enough to remind you where you are, the day becomes something worth remembering.
That is the setting for the 2026 NVforHD Charity Golf Tournament — May 29 at Gray's Crossing Golf Club, Truckee, CA.
The Course

Gray's Crossing is a championship course in the Lahontan/Old Greenwood corridor of Truckee — the same neighborhood that hosts the Lake Tahoe area's most respected golf properties.
The designers: Peter Jacobsen, a six-time PGA Tour winner, and Jim Hardy, one of the game's most respected teaching professionals and course architects. Their design philosophy at Gray's Crossing prioritises playability for all levels while maintaining genuine challenge for low handicappers.
The terrain: Narrow, tree-lined fairways cut through mature Sierra Nevada pine forest. Elevation changes require real course management. The greens are firm and fast. Wind matters.
The conditions in late May: Ideal. The snowpack has melted. Temperatures are typically 65–75°F. The course is in peak condition. Memorial Weekend in Truckee is one of the most beautiful windows the Sierra Nevada offers.
Why NVforHD Chose Gray's Crossing
For our 2024 inaugural tournament, we played Old Greenwood — a Jack Nicklaus design in the same neighborhood, and a course that served us beautifully for a sold-out debut.
Gray's Crossing is the upgrade for 2026. More challenging. More scenic. And fully equipped to host our growing tournament.

The venue selection matters to NVforHD for one specific reason: a great course makes people want to come back. And every time they come back, more funds reach the UC Davis HD families who depend on this tournament.
The Day
Format: Four-person scramble — everyone hits, the best shot is selected, play continues from there. It rewards good teamwork over individual handicap. It keeps pace fast. And it means a group with mixed abilities can still have a great competitive round together.
Shotgun start: 12:00 PM. All groups begin simultaneously from different holes.
Box lunch: Included for all players.
Hotel: Sean has negotiated discounted rates at Atlantis Casino Resort Spa and Peppermill Resort Spa Casino in Reno. Call him directly at 775-691-8860 — these rates are not available through normal booking channels.
"Reno to Truckee is 35 minutes. For the golfers who make that drive on May 29, the round will stay with them. Not just because of the course — but because of what it paid for."
The Cause
100% of every entry fee, donation, and sponsorship goes directly to the UC Davis HD Center of Excellence — the only specialist HD clinic serving Northern Nevada's 90+ HD families.
The clinic runs on private donation. It employs neurologists, psychiatrists, genetic counselors, and social workers dedicated entirely to Huntington's Disease care. Without consistent fundraising, that team cannot be maintained.
Your round at Gray's Crossing keeps it running.
